Be clever, play clever, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he invented the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
