Be brilliant, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. Most consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
