Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
